Breakfast, lunch & dinner

The guide will meet you early at the hotel to leave Cusco in our private vehicle, we will drive towards Pakariqtampu. From a detour (3,250 m) we will start our mountain bike adventure for the next 2 hours (6 km). We will receive our biking equipment and a short safety briefing by our guide to then start biking through a dirt road towards the Maukallacta Inca site. 90% of the route is downhill and 10% is an uphill ride. We will arrive to the mythical Inca site called Maukallacta and Urcos (2,900 m) where we will enjoy our snack and hear stories about the Ayar brothers and wives, founders of the Inca civilization. After a short visit to this amazing and sacred Inca site, we keep biking downhill for one hour and a half to our lunch place at Molle Molle village (2200 m) and then board the van for the next 2 hours driving uphill to Huanoquite town and the Wilkacunca pass (4,100 m /13,874 ft.). From this point we will get into the Apurimac River canyon with an impressive view of the surrounding mountains and the majestic gorge of the river, the headwater of the Amazon River. At that point we will start driving down and you will notice a warm atmosphere and a growing forest until it turns into the spectacular relic of centuries old native forest. After 25 more minutes we will arrive to the Loretuyoc Bridge (3,300 m /11,316fts), where we will find our campsite beside a magical waterfall. It will be time to enjoy some cheese and wine after our dinner, plus hot drinks.

We will keep walking for the next two hours down through Kusichaca remains to Huanca Huanca village (2800 m) where we will meet the local people and have the chance to bring some help to the local school. From here, we will board the vans and will drive for a half an hour to the end of the road from where we will have a “must hike” for about 500 meters down to the river near the base of the Inca bridge of Huajachaca, used by the antique Peruvians to exchange goods between the Pacific Ocean coast and Cusco as the capital of the empire at (2100 m). Lunch will be served at the river shore. At this point we will meet the other part of the crew, our river rafting guides and all the equipment and gear to continue with our expedition by the river. Breakfast

Transfer this morning and hop on board of one of the prettiest train rides in South America destined for Machu Picchu which sits majestically among the massive Andes, swathed in clouds. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height. Its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments.  The natural setting on the eastern slopes of the Andes encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna. Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas” is one of the most spectacular sites on earth and a place that retains its mystery, allure and mystical appeal, despite its enormous popularity. Exploring the site remains a thrilling experience, especially at sunrise, when dramatic rays of light creep over the mountaintops. After a private guided tour, we then take a late afternoon bus to the town of Machu Picchu where you spend the night. Hit the bars along the railroad tracks to share stories with some of the backpackers who’ve survived the Inca Trail, or end your fantastic day soothing your muscles in the hot springs.

IMPORTANT TIP

If you do want to see the beautiful scenery and ancient buildings of Machu Picchu, book your trip early. The Peruvian government has placed a limit on the number of people allowed to hike the trails to the city per day. Be sure to book your tickets well in advance. The high season tends to book up quickly!
