FD- RAFTING QUIQUIJANA-URCOS-PIÑIPAMPA

Rainy Season (mid December to April) is ironically, much warmer (summer season) than the dry season (May to mid December) and nothing further from the truth thinking that during this season it rains all day, every day. A typical summer day in the Cusco region means a clear sky in the morning, a possible rain in the afternoon (can be very strong and last a couple of hours), then be cleared again but for rafting purposes is the perfect time as the Urubamba river become one of the best rivers for whitewater rafting in south America.

It is precisely for that reason that we always have to watch very carefully river levels and weather conditions to pull off a trip in the Quiquijana or on the Piñipampa section. The key is to choose the right section to run an absolutely safe and fun rafting tour. Whatever the section you select according to your abilities, the rewards are high. Both sections are spectacular, the level II, III and III+ rapids are challenging and river side views outstanding.

All the Upper Section rafting of the Urubamba river begin with an early departure from the Cusco city. The drive travels along the way down the Saylla and Oropesa Valley. The whole route offers spectacular views of the Andes, lakes and charming villages with its own beauty and range of uniqueness, including local markets, rich corn farmlands and ancient ruins.

QUIQUIJANA SECTION - RAPIDS II, III AND III+ (Intermediate and Advanced)

With high water, the Quiquijana section is an ideal whitewater wonderland with more than 40 constant rapids perfect for intermediate and energetic first-timers. Crossing the mountain walls, you traverse important Andean towns with crops of corn, herd of sheep and cows farms. URCOS-PIÑIPAMPA - RAPIDS II AND III (Beginners and Intermediate)

Running this section, you blow at high speed down narrow rocky canyon corridors. Over and over you blast upon nice, gentle class II and III rapids booming with fast current, nice waves, and quiet moods in between the rapids. This section requiring easy paddling, perfect for family trips, first-timers and even can satisfied intermediate seekers.

After your adventure is finished, you will have a delicious lunch with a fantastic Andean scenery, with hot and cold drinks waiting for you.

As soon as the van is loaded, it’s time to say goodbye to the river and to start the drive back to Cusco.

What to bring?

  • Shorts (obligatory in order to wear over the wet suit)
  • Bathing costume
  • Sandals like brands as Teva or Chacos with straps that secure the foot properly, tennis shoes can also be a best alternative (flip flops  not acceptable).
  • Dry shoes for after the rafting.
  • Sun block, drinking water, insect repellent
  • Towel and dry warm clothes for after rafting.
  • Eyes glasses need to have a string or rope attached to avoid falling down.

 NOTE: If you will run the Urubamba upper section we recommend to overnight in Cusco city, if your hotel is located in the Sacred Valley an additional transfer will be charged.
