FD RAFTING CHUQUICAHUANA SECTION

Early morning, the guide will pick you up from your hotel (Cusco) and drive through the mountains towards the south valley of Cusco, until reaching the picturesque town of Llollocra, the perfect ideal starting point for the Chuquicahuana river adventure.

This is the largest section of the upper Urubamba river with long and exhilarating rapids, excellent scenic views of the riverside include big eucalyptus trees, beautiful flowers, a profusion of cactus and charming Andean villages.

Upon arrival to the river, your river guide will give you a safety briefing and demonstrate rafting commands. It will be then time to gear up with your wetsuits, helmets, waterproof jacket and life jacket. It will take some minutes to practice all the commands and instructions given, and once, when everyone is ready it’s time to begin your rafting adventure!

DRY SEASON - RAPIDS II/III

During this season the scenery suffers a transformation from green to multicolored yellow and green grassy mountains and from rainy to dry sunny days. The adventure is accompanied with constant technical rapids, between rocks, small waves and holes that needs good maneuvering. The rapids are mixed with small pool sections in between perfect for small swims and jumps from rocks and cliffs.

RAINY SEASON – RAPIDS IV/IV+

The river welcomes you with gentle small rapids perfect to practice before entering the big ones. The river then transforms into a monster with constant long rapids full of massive holes and waves. A structured river navigation system is used to prevent accidents.  Chuquicahuana section, in rainy season, is only for adventurous intermediate and experienced rafters.

After this thrilling adventure, a delicious homemade lunch will be waiting for you.

As soon as the van is loaded it’s time to say goodbye to the river and to start the drive back to Cusco.

What to bring?

  • Shorts (obligatory in order to wear over the wet suit)
  • bathing costume
  • Sandals like Teva or Chacos with straps that secure the foot properly, tennis shoes can also be a best alternative (flip flops  not acceptable).
  • Dry shoes for after the rafting.
  • Sun block, drinking water.
  • Towel and dry warm clothes for after rafting.
  • Eyes glasses need to have a string or rope attached to avoid falling down.

NOTE: If you will run the Chuquicahuana section we recommend to overnight in Cusco city, if your hotel is located in the Sacred Valley an additional transfer will be charged.
